چکیده
SUMMARY One thousand patients, ranging in age from 4 months to 26 years, underwent per-cutaneous catheterization of the femoral artery and femoral vein. Cardiac catheterization was combined with selective angiocardiography in all patients. The catheter entered the right ventricle in 972 of 990 patients (98%) and the left ventricle in 832 of 856 (97%), including 82 of 89 patients (92%) with aortic stenosis. There were no deaths, perforations of the heart, or loss of tissue. The peripheral pulse was decreased in 6% (49 of 856) and absent in 2% (17 of 856). Other complications included two uneventful perforations of the aortic arch, two lacerations of the femoral artery, three lacerations of the femoral vein, a false aneurysm of the femoral artery, and a cerebrovascular accident. Our findings indicate that, in children more than 2 years old and weighing more than 10 kg, the percutaneous method is safe, informative, and associated with less arterial circulatory complications than the approach from the surgically exposed artery.

Percutaneous Heart Catheterization
neous method of right and left heart catheterization was used in 127 patients. In infants and children weighing more than 10 pounds, the percutaneous method was found to be an effective technic associated with a 3% incidence of diminished arterial pulses in the catheterized limb. All patients in this weight group, except one, had left heart catheterization by this technic. The method was deemed...
متن کاملAssociation Between Left Anterior Descending Artery Length with Coronary Artery Dominance: An Angiographic Study
Introduction: Although left anterior descending (LAD) artery supplies a large portion of the myocardium, the amount of blood supply provided by LAD is depended on the length of the LAD. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the association between coronary artery dominance and LAD anatomic types in patients with normal epicardial coronary arteries. Methods:...
متن کاملAdvances in percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with chronic kidney disease.
Coronary artery disease is the number one cause of death in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, patients with impaired renal function are much less likely than patients with normal renal function to undergo left heart catheterization and coronary intervention. Patients that do receive invasive strategies experience more bleeding and higher rates of ischemic events. In this revie...
متن کاملCardiac catheterization through the internal jugular vein in pediatric patients. An alternative to the usual femoral vein access.
The percutaneous femoral vein approach is used routinely for cardiac catheterization in the pediatric age but in some children, it may be impossible as in the case of iliac vein or inferior vena cava thrombosis due to previous cardiac catheterization, or inconvenient as for right ventricular endomyocardial biopsies. In the period between 1982 and 1990, 160 cardiac catheterizations or right vent...
متن کاملLeft heart catheterization with special reference to the transseptal method.
In the early nineteen-fifties the emergence of cardiac surgery called for accurate diagnosis, and it became necessary to catheterize the left side of the heart. The left atrium was entered by needles inserted through the tracheal wall, the suprasternal notch, and the back of the chest; and the left ventricle was entered by needle puncture, or by the passage of a catheter from the left atrium or...
